Why 'The Tribe' is so popular among the youth.
Surviving in a world without adults.
The tribe is very popular among the youth and had just started it's fourth season. Three main characters of the cast were in the Netherlands and told us about the success of the science fiction series from New-Zealand.

Imagine yourself: a mysterious virus has been spread over the whole world and caused all the adults to die. The children have to survive without their adults, they organise themselves in different tribes, with their own rules and it's own facial decorations and it's own vision on life. The MallRats is the main tribe in the series and they dream of a world in which all the tribes can cooperate and live peacefully. In the fourth series they get to deal with the Techno Tribe and that causes, passion, conflicts, love, ambition, treason and intrigues.

MERYL CASSIE (EBONY)
Ebony is the fourteen year old leader of the Mall Rats She is driven and uses her strong personality and her female charms to achieve her goals. She's played by the nineteen year old Meryl Cassie.

Meryl: "The series is very popular among the youth, I thinks this is because it's completely different from the other series. A lot of children recognise themselves in it. A lot of things that happen in the series, are issues they get to deal with in everyday life. We get a lot of letters from viewers, in which they thank us for our help and that gives us a lot of satisfaction! The part I play gives me that too, because I like everything about Ebony's character. She's got a strong personality, she's bossy, stubborn and she has got both feet steady on the ground. She is very different from me. Ok I can be bossy from time to time, but not like her!"
"We are
often being
thanked for
our help."

JAMES NAPIER (JAY)
"The series gives comfort and support"
Jay is a member of the Techno tribe which means he is a newcomer in series 4. His fellow tribe members respect him because of his brilliant strategies and his practical thinking. Jay is played by the 21-year old James Napier.

James: "Jay is a street-fighter, a leader and very resolute and driven to achieve what he wants. I recognise some things of myself in him. He is moralistic, and he knows to draw the line between good and evil and he wants to do as many good things as possible. Because of the series children get the idea that they're not on their own with their problems and that other children cope with them too. That gives comfort and support. We sometimes get letters from teenagers who write that the series saved their life, because they got a solution to their big problem, like rape or being picked on, while they thought life wasn't worth it anymore."

ANTONIA PREBBLE (TRUDY)
Trudy is a fourteen years old tribe member of the Mall Rats. After an attempted suicide she learned to control her emotions a bit better and because of that she can be a good mother for her daughter Brady. Trudy is played by the nineteen year old Antonia Prebble and she's been a member of the regular cast from the beginning.

Antonia: "Trudy is an emotional person, not very stable or strong. She's a person of deep valleys and high tops and so am I; I'm different every day. One time I am sad or chagrined and the next day I can be completely happy again. I find her character interesting because she has such a long way to go before she's completely grown up. 'The Tribe' might be an entertaining program, but at the same time it gives you a lot of information and ideas about coping with you problems."
"Trudy has got a long way to go"
