Space View : The Tribe Fanbook : James Napier (Jay) Interview
Published : March 2005 : This is a translation of an interview that appeared in the book.
Translation by Mary (aka Danielle)

What do you do at present?
I currently live in L.A. and am looking for a good role. In addition, I play in a band and compose my own music in my home recording studio. I have settled in Los Angeles and I write a lot, too. However, I will return to New Zealand in a few weeks to film a Power Rangers TV movie.

Would you be willing to come back to The Tribe?
Definitely, filming it was heaps of fun.

Do you have a favourite TV show?
I don’t even have a TV now. If I had one, I’d be sitting in front of the telly all the time. But my favourite series is The Simpsons, followed by The Sopranos.

Do you recall any funny moments on set?
I frequently stumbled across lamps and stuff, luckily that was edited out. And one time Beth Allen and I had to share a romantic kiss and one of the crew members let off – that was really comical.

Do you have a girlfriend?
Yeah, her name is Jinny. She’s an actress I got to know in L.A. She’s currently writing a vampire novel!

Did you like your tribal clothes?
Well, they were… a little bit tight, to be honest. But they looked great and that’s what really matters.

What do you wear in real life?
It’s quite unusual, actually. I have a pair of slashed jeans and mostly wear t-shirts or sweaters. It’s horrible when I have a meeting and everyone’s in a suit and I’m there in my slashed jeans. I really should buy another jeans.

Did you recently read anything you could recommend?
Well, to accompany the others: “The Da Vinci Code” was really good. Besides, I read “Watership Down” (a great book) and a biography of Jim Morrison, which is fascinating – and “The Adventures of Screen Trade” by William Goldman, which is one of my all time favourite books.

What’s your favourite music?
Wow, I don’t have few favourite bands, because listen to all sorts of music. To name only a few: Nirvana, A Perfect Circle, Jeff Buckley, Smashing Pumpkins, Bob Dylan, Tool, Soundgarden, Tracy Chapman, Tupac and lots more.
