Cloud 9 to Produce Sequel Series to The Tribe
March 22nd 2005

WELLINGTON, March 22: Following commissions from Australia’s Seven Network and U.K.’s FIVE, Cloud 9 has greenlit The New Tomorrow, a 26x30 sequel to tween series The Tribe. Global distribution rights will be handled by Southern Star International.

The sci-fi adventure series is currently at script stage, with production scheduled to start in April and delivery due from September 2005. The series will be filmed and produced by Cloud 9 in Australasia.

"The New Tomorrow interweaves a range of provocative social and environmental issues, and a range of elements which children can relate to–reflecting their young lives–in a very entertaining way," said Raymond Thompson, Cloud 9’s founder/chairman and the program’s creator/writer. "We are delighted to have the support of Janine Faithfull from the Seven Network and Nick Wilson from Five, and we are confident that our international distribution partner, Southern Star International, will allow us to extend The Tribe franchise to a new generation of young fans around the world.’’

The New Tomorrow starts from the same premise as The Tribe–a world with no adults in which children have to re-create their own society–and tackles similar themes of survival, ambition, friendship and loyalty. However, it is aimed at a younger audience, 8-12 year olds, and has a new cast.

Added Southern Star International CEO Catherine Payne, "The New Tomorrow has strong potential based on the fantastic international success of The Tribe, which has been licensed to over 40 broadcasters worldwide."
